About Reading Pathways

Behind the Program

Reading Pathways was created by a primary school teacher and mum who has spent years working with children across every stage of reading — from confident early readers to older children still finding it incredibly hard.

What stayed with her wasn't just the reading gaps. It was watching children begin to believe they simply weren't good at reading.

Not because they couldn't learn. But because somewhere along the way, the foundations they needed had been missed.

And once children reach the middle and upper primary years, those gaps can become harder to see — and harder to talk about. Children avoid reading. They guess at words. They get frustrated. They decide, quietly, that reading just isn't for them.

That's what Reading Pathways was made to change.

Why Reading Pathways Exists

Reading Pathways wasn't created because children need more worksheets.

It was created because children need a clear path — and parents need someone to show them the way.

Parents are told to "practise reading at home" — but what does that actually mean? What do I teach first? What sound comes next? How do I help my child blend? What do I say when they get stuck? How do I know when they're ready to move on?

These are the questions Reading Pathways answers.

Built on the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction — particularly explicit, systematic phonics — Reading Pathways takes the knowledge that can feel complicated and overwhelming and turns it into a clear, logical sequence that parents can actually follow.

How It Works

Reading Pathways is systematic and sequential. Children aren't expected to memorise long lists of words or guess from pictures. Instead, they gradually learn the relationship between letters and sounds — and use that knowledge to build words, read sentences, and grow into increasingly confident readers.

Each lesson is designed to take around 10 minutes:

Review → Learn → Build & Read → Read in Context → Celebrate

Skills are deliberately revisited so children get plenty of practice before new complexity is introduced. And lessons are written in plain language — because parents shouldn't need an education degree to help their child learn to read.

Reading Pathways teaches the parent alongside the child. You'll know what you're teaching, why it matters, exactly what to say and do, and how to recognise when your child is ready for the next step.

A Note From the Creator

"I've seen what happens when a child decides they can't read. I've also seen what happens when the right foundations are put in place — even late, even after years of struggle. Children are capable of so much more than they sometimes believe. Reading Pathways goes back to the beginning, without ever making a child feel like they've failed."
